As I left
Palais de Tokyo, I stopped in their bookstore and perused through some magazines and photography books. As I went through a Richard
Avedon book, I came across this photo with the caption "William
Casby, Born in Slavery, Algiers,
Louisiana, March 24, 1963". I instantly stopped turning the pages, the room was no longer full of motion and I focused my entire existence on this picture, his eyes grabbed my attention, so full of sorrow, pain, hope, struggle, strength, faith and the list could continue. He reminded me of my grandfather, a look of quiet strength, only seen through a persons eyes.
Avedon captured the essence and the story of this man through this simple picture. This man did what he had to do, so we could do what we want to do, please Vote.
bisous,
Jennifer Pauline
